All Levels Welcome

Friday 6-8pm Unwind the Spine $35
Many people experience upper back and neck stiffness. Lower back compression is most common in our culture– 85% of our society suffers from low back pain at some point in their lives. Typically this pain is due to asymmetrical strain patterns, i.e excess tightness on one side of the body. This class aims to release constriction in the sacral, lumbar, thoracic and cervical areas through gliding, rocking and stretching movements. In particular, our aim is to unglue the tightness in the muscles, tendons and ligaments by irrigating blood into the spine and sacrum.

Saturday 9-12 Deep Front, Open Back $50
To safely bend the body backwards the most fibrous tissues in the front body must be soft and receptive. In this class we’ll work deeply in the caverns of the front of the ankles, hips, and belly to service the elongation needed for back arching with ease and joy.

Saturday 2-5 The Art of Inverting $50
Because of the way that the heart and lungs are nourished, going upside down is an invaluable way to elevate one’s spirit. We’ll lay a stable foundation for students so they can then build the confidence and self-trust to do inversions safely; yoga teachers will learn a sequence to prepare their own students for inversions.

Sunday 9-12 Hip Joint Elixir $50
The name for the hip socket in Greek is acetabulum, which means “wine cup”. This class will explore ways to generate fluidity in the hips through both mobilization and stabilization techniques.

In this workshop we will explore all three elements as we flow through asana, strength conditioning, flight sequences and leg love.
Circle Up is a community-building yoga project that invests in youth and local yoga teachers in the developing world. projectcircleup.org

Katie’s Bio:
Katie serendipitously fell into Acroyoga upon completing her Kundalini Yoga Teacher training in 2008. After playing with the elements of freedom through technique for a few years, Katie continued her yogic studies with Level I AcroYoga Teacher Training in 2010, followed by Level 2 AcroYoga Teacher training in 2012. The alignment, strength, support and wisdom AcroYoga teaches has re-invented her daily practice and her communication with the world.

A holistic healer, Katie is also a Family Nurse Practitioner and has also completed trainings in Shiatsu, Reiki, Indian Head Massage and Thai Yoga Therapy. Her western medicine practice specializes in community health, with a focus on immigrant health, and she has spent over 4 years working with internationally with various Aide organizations, including a recent stint in Northern Nigeria with Doctors Without Borders.

You can also catch Katie, and her lovely co-teacher Lisa, on their world teaching tour at www.projectcircleup.org. She is humbled to be a part of this global community, and delighted to share the practice with you!

Lisa’s Bio:
Lisa began practicing yoga 9 years ago at her local community center. Since the start of her yogic journey, Lisa has weaved in and out of many lineages (Anusara, Iyengar, Forrest, Ashtanga, Dharma Mittra, etc.), combining their wisdom in her own practice both on and off the mat.

Lisa stumbled across AcroYoga by chance in 2008 and knew immediately that it was a perfect fit. This could be due the fact that she began to have spontaneous fits of laughter while doing AcroYoga. This could also be due to the fact that she became an official addict from day 1 and couldn’t stop flying friends, family, and random people on the street. But mostly, this perfect fit originates from Lisa’s passion for community building and sharing her passions with those around her. Lisa believes in the power of community to take each individual further toward their own potential.

When she is not doing yoga, Lisa consults for nonprofits to improve the impact and effectiveness of their advocacy efforts. She also teaches “The Female Experience, ” a course on women’s empowerment in Washington DC. And she occasionally finds hills to hike or cycle up.

This charity calendar highlights yoga in hidden gardens of Savannah, GA. This was our first charity calendar. Proceeds from the sales of this calendar go to help one of our own, Dawn Smith, A SYC yoga teacher. The calendar features SYC teachers doing yoga in some of Savannah's most beautiful hidden gardens.

You will not see many of these residential gardens on the garden tours or the walking tours. The intention behind making this calendar is to give back to the Savannah Community.
We hope to make this an annual offering. Our 2011 calendar proceeds will go to helping one of our very own yoga teaches here at SYC, Dawn Smith

This spring Dawn incurred some hefty medical bills after a nasty bicycle accident. We hope to help Dawn get back on her feet and out from under the mountain of medical bill debt.
