Join Kendall for this fun, dynamic workshop designed to help you cultivate freedom in your vinyasa flow practice. You will learn powerful tools to send you flying with grace safely through your vinyasa for the rest of your life.
Yoga teaches us that true freedom cannot be acquired from our external world. Freedom is an “inside job.” Only by freeing ourselves from thoughts and habits that no longer serve us can we truly feel free in our lives.
Likewise, in our physical practice, freedom to flow with grace through a challenging vinyasa (series of pose linked by breath) without repetitive stress to our shoulders and wrists lies not in our external limbs but in the very core of our physical body- our deep belly. We will explore these essential belly components of smooth transitions in vinyasa and empower ourselves with several safe options to “go or flow” to downward facing dog!
Kendall has been “going or flowing” to downward facing dog over the course of the past ten years while going or flowing all over the country in search of the next adventure. A teacher at SYC she is tremendously grateful to have the opportunity to share what she has learned from her own journeys and teachers with the sweet yoga community in Savannah, GA. Her “unofficial” training as an instructor began long before she became certified, and she has been teaching Vinyasa-style yoga for four years in Chattanooga, TN. Kendall's teaching is inspired by many traditions and many teachers, combining dynamic asana with a strong emphasis on breath work and internal awareness to open physically and energetically.

Outline of Adjustment Workshop
Adjustments to yoga poses come in a variety of forms including physical, verbal, and even energetic. The basic workshop and the observation workshop support good intelligent adjustments that address the individual as just that, an individual in the moment and what they need to be aware of or adjust in their practice.
Safe and intelligent adjustments should always begin with a good experience of actually doing the pose, followed by an understanding of what the intention or quality of the pose is. where the student is in their journey of understanding and experiencing the pose, and finally what level of information they can absorb from whatever method of delivery of an adjustment you decide to give.
Knowing anatomy and function of joints helps us to understand more clearly what physical aspects of the persons body are allowing or restricting the ability to do a pose. Observation allows us to see more clearly the physical aspect of the pose and what needs to change. The adjustment then delivers the feedback of what is observed so that the student can further explore the pose and its physical, energetic, mental or psycho-spiritual aspects. Therefore adjustments are tailored to the individual in the moment.

David has the perspective that the practice must come from the inside outward, as a result attention to the fundamental components of breath; bandha and dristhi are first attended too. Then the layering of technique in asana and the anatomy of the poses have a foundation to sit on and a reason to be.
It can be difficult in one week to work with students in a way that moves them forward. This is exactly why David asks that you commit to coming for the 5 days, establish a relationship and give enough time for observation, assessment and then direction. David will not be sitting back and just watching you do your practice, instead he limits the numbers so he can engage everyone as fully as possible in a short amount of time.

Change and loss are inescapably connected to the human experience. In yoga, we honor the cycles of life, including birth and death, opening and closing, rising and falling; and in this recognition of impermanence, we invite and allow our feelings about change to transform our lives. Major life circumstances, such as death of a loved one, divorce, or loss of a job, can trigger a deep sense of grief. Yoga offers us healthy coping tools, not only to deal with our many feelings associated with grief, but to open our hearts and grow from adversity. Ultimately, grief can be the catalyst for immersing our souls in the beauty of life.
In this workshop you will explore the unique expressions & experiences of grief in a safe, therapeutic environment, blending perspectives from Yogic & Buddhist Philosophy, Western Psychology and Energy Work.
Breath work, yoga and meditation, will help you to deeply connect with your felt sense, an inner-wisdom that unifies your mind, body, and spirit.
Discussions, journaling, and energy work will accompany the yoga practice. Non practitioners and those struggling to find an outlet for grief are highly encouraged to attend. This workshop is suitable for: Bereaved individuals, Persons dealing with major losses/ major life changes (i.e. divorces, end of relationships, loss of job, etc.), People in the Helping Field (Counselors, Social Workers, Teachers, etc.)
Stephanie Jones is graduate from the Savannah Yoga Center’s 200hr Teacher Training program and a RYT 200 teacher, practicing yoga since 2001 and sharing her passion for yoga with others since 2009. A labor of love, The Growing from Grief Workshop was created as an important piece to Stephanie’s personal healing journey. In 2007, her father’s life was taken by a drunk driver, and yoga provided her with a safe space in which to process her grief. Stephanie says, “Yoga continues to act as a loving guide and sanctuary for my soul, teaching me to look deeply into the expansive and compassionate nature of the heart. This is what inspires me to share yoga with others.”

A Bryan Kest Workshop is an immersion in the “Practice of Yoga.” The workshop will have a practice that strengthens not just the body, but even more importantly, the qualities of our mind that actually have the largest impact on our physical well being.
The workshop will be a strong, well rounded, yet simple physical practice that leaves every nook and cranny in our bodies vibrating with vitality while challenging our minds in the sense of strengthening the qualities of mind that are most useful, positive and powerful, while eradicating the qualities of our mind that are harmful and stress inducing. It will strengthen qualities such as calmness, patience, focus, gentleness, gratitude, humility and acceptance, while weakening qualities such as judgment, competitiveness, distraction, reaction, and criticism.
If you feed qualities of mind, they will grow big and strong, and if you don’t feed them, they will weaken and die. Now since our physical practice is such a fertile environment for most all of these qualities to arise, our physical practice becomes an opportunity to strengthen the qualities we want to be strong and to weaken and eradicate the qualities we find harmful. If you want to know how Bryan does this, you will have to come and see because words cannot replicate the experience that is a culmination of almost 30 years of his own yoga practice called Power Yoga.
BRYAN KEST
Bryan started practicing yoga in Hawaii in 1979 with David Williams and Brad Ramsey. He remembers profoundly that the emphasis of the yoga back then was “being connected to something larger than ourselves that we were all part of.” It was a new lifestyle that focused on quality, not quantity, and a new view on relationship with our bodies, our hearts, and relationships with the people around us, as well as on this planet. So much of it was about community, hugging instead of shaking hands, and cooking, not just eating. It was also about eradicating the things that separate us all, yet respecting the differences between us.
